Sweet lawn

We recently moved. And the new place has some preexisting landscaping that at one time I am sure was pretty nice. However, since the house has been vacant for over a year, it’s been somewhat neglected. I have been picking away at it on the weekends trying to tame it and in a month or so should have most of the overgrowth fixed.

The lawn itself is in pretty decent shape, and I’d like to keep it that way, and hopefully make it a little better.

My yard on Pitt street was so small I cut it with a weed eater. When Shelly and I moved to Juniper street, I picked up a cheap mower at Lowe’s and so that is what we have now.

This mower is a side-discharge, which leaves clumps of grass all over the place, which is undesirable.

After some research I think I have settled on the mower I want. I have read some positive things about it online.

Anyone have experience with these? Have something to add to the discussion? Like another mower better? Leave a comment!

As promised!

As promised, I have not updated this blog regularly.

Just wanted to jot a quick note for my training log purposes.

I have been keeping the miles consistent since Blake was born. I am creeping up on 20 miles a week slowly.

I have been going a wee bit faster since the heat broke. I have been having some foot pain however, and am going to ease off on any sort of speed.

I am not sure what this pain is. It’s odd. It doesn’t really hurt to walk or run on it. However sometimes it will just start to ache. It really hurts if squeeze my foot on the sides. *shrug*

Going to try icing it after running.

I have also been stretching more for about the last 3 weeks. That has helped my back. I can get out of bed easier as well.

Ok. bye.

Training Log 07.04.10

Shelly had gotten me a Running Stroller for my birthday. However since Blake decided to be born that day, I hadn’t really had time to get it out of the box.

Today I decided I wanted to get it out and give it a go. So Elliot and I unpacked it, put it together and headed down to the Newville Rails To Trails.

I must say, I was caught a little off guard with how difficult it was to push at first. It wasn’t /that/ hard, but I think I must have thought it would be easy peasy.

After the first mile I had settled into a rhythm and was cruising along fine.

It was pretty warm and I think by the end Elliot had had enough. He jumped out of the stroller and wanted to go running. So we ran about a quarter mile near the car and then headed home.

Ran a little quicker last night. The weather was awesome.

Also adjusted the watch for my correct weight which increased the calorie count.

Got my new 305 tonight, and wasted no time. I strapped it on and sprung out the door.

I have been running a known path that used to take me about 30 minutes. However I had no idea how long it was.

I was super surprised to learn it was almost exactly 3 miles. I was pretty happy to learn that.

Anyway, I am also super glad to have a Garmin watch again too!

Training Log 06.27.2010

I missed my run yesterday due to a visit from my aunt to see the baby. After she left I was so tired and unmotivated I just caved in and called it a day.

The plan today was to hit the barracks and make up for it. However I ended up getting very little sleep last night and was pretty miserable this morning.

I decided to hit a 4 miler in the nearly mid day heat anyway. Wowee was it a brutal one. I did manage to finish, though I am sure it was a slow one.

I ordered a Garmin last week, and expect to get it this week. Hopefully this 4 miler was a stepping stone in the right direction. I want to get out there with the new watch.

Another 30 minute (ish) run.

Sleep deprivation and humidity made it difficult. But I am glad I did it.

Another easy 30 minute (ish) run.

I did see this morning on a walk that the barracks is open again (getting in and out of there for a bit was difficult) so maybe this week I can hit up a 4 miler there.

I think I will order the 305 sooner rather than later. I am getting the itch to go long.

Training Log 06.19.2010

Ran 30 minutes (ish) this morning. It was hot but it was nice to get out.

I took about a week off when Blake was born, so this was the first run since last weekend.

In the couple of weeks leading up to Blake arriving, I had been running the same route over and over using a regular watch and so I know about how far to go for a 30 minute run. Sometime in the week before he was born, I lost my watch, so now I am just running the same route.

I am planning to pick a new 305 soon, and try to get a little more variety in the runs, but for the time being since I am pressed for time and energy, running this route 3 times a week should suffice to keep me in shape.
