Geocache come home

A few days ago I posted about a geocache that Bob and I placed at Kings Gap state park. I tried to submit it to geocaching.com.

Geocaching.com can’t accept the cache because you need a permit to place a cache in a state park. I am going to remove the cache as I have little or no desire to jump through the hoops of state government so I can leave a joke in the woods.

If anyone is heading out to Kings Gap anytime soon and wants to try to find it and dispose of the cache, that would be sweet, just zip me an email. Otherwise I will go get it either this weekend or next.

Training Log 01.16.08

Eric and I headed over to the Lancaster County Central Park over lunch today for an easy 3 miler.

The temperature wasn’t bad but early on the breeze was a little chilly. After about a half mile though we were all warm and toasty.

We initially tried running on the trails but they were very muddy and slippery, so we opted to go onto the roads in the park. Good run.

My collection

I really like computer books. Well, I really like books. One type of books I buy is computer/programming related bookery.

I recently picked up two new books. K&R’s The C Programming Language Second Edition and Design Patterns by the GoF

I have been reading K&R and it’s very accessible so far, even for a dynamic language junkie like me. I hope to get a little more deft with C…if only for fun.

Anyway, I am happy to have added these two to the collection of books.

I meant to do a lot of things today, and didn’t get to many of them. I only really accomplished picking up some new warmer running clothes and going running.

I wanted to get in 12 miles this week so I could increase mileage and obey the 10% rule. That might be tough to do.

I set out for a 4 mile run, but 2 miles in my orthotics were rubbing my socks into my arches and it felt like my feet were going to catch on fire. I stopped after about 2.3 miles and adjusted my shoes, only to have to adjust them again a couple of tenths of a mile later. I opted to stop at 3 miles.

I am not sure why they were rubbing like that. I was wearing cotton socks, and I am going to try synthetic next. But honestly I have worn cotton socks before without issue. I will have to wait and see. It will be Tuesday or Wednesday before I run again.

I also really tried to keep the pace down, and largely succeeded.

Further activity yesterday.

I really like it when I go running, but then later in the day, I do something active as well. That’s always a good feeling.

Bob, Sun and I went down to Kings Gap yesterday to hike around in the woods. We had good weather and talked the whole time we were out. Fun.

Bob recently purchased a GPS and wanted to do some Geocaching with it. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find online any caches in the park. We decided to make our own.

Yes, that is random crap we put in it. There is a “Red Bull Dog Tag”, a light switch, a lighter and mouse trap. All cool things one would want to find in the woods.

I am not sure how accurate my Forerunner is for this sort of thing, but the coordinates are:

N 40° 05.720 / W 077° 16.137

If you go look for it, and find it, shoot me an email so I know it’s fairly accurate. I would like to put it on geocaching.com but I don’t want to frustrate people if the coordinates aren’t right.

Of course I wore my Garmin the whole time, so I have stats.

Training Log 01.12.08

I am a sap. I am not kidding when I say my eyes welled up as I ran today. I was so happy to be back to a full week of running that I couldn’t contain myself.

So that’s that, 11 miles on the week, all outside. What a crazy January.

I drove down to the rails to trails in Newville and did 1.5 each way, out and back for a 3 mile run. This was the trail I set my current 5K PR on (23:24). It’s also a time I won’t touch for many many months as I recover from my hip injury.

The temperature was perfect. I did notice that I was tending toward the fast, and had to reign it in a number of times. I also noticed my hip a little, but I am really certain it’s because I have been wearing non-sneakers for the last two days without my orthotics. This week I am committed to wearing my sneakers everyday.

Also, *sigh* I am doing a bunch of other stuff today, and won’t get to lift. I really want to see that through, but it was just not in the cards this week. I will lift tomorrow instead, but I will count it toward next week (unless somehow I have a bunch of extra time this week).

Deary me

I am sitting on my sofa at my laptop on a Saturday morning and I am able to go running. I haven’t had a Saturday like this in I can’t remember how long.

Get out of my way, I am going running.

Training Log 01.07.08

I went to the YMCA tonight since my neighbor was going down there to do some Chest/Biceps and it’s always fun to lift together.

I also hit the bike for 30 minutes. I plan to do the same tonight except different muscle groups.

New plan

Yesterday I messed up. I was out of town with friends (and didn’t get back till after 5 and so didn’t run the 5K). We were supposed to run while away, but I forgot my shoes. I ended up borrowing a pair of shoes that were too small and ran 5 miles with my toes scrunched up. Needless to say my biomechanics were all screwed up. Today my legs are really sore. My hip feels surprisingly good, a little pain and stiffness but not bad considering the shoes and that I wasn’t wearing my orthotics.

I need a new plan and need to get more organized now that I am running again.

Here is my goal for the week:
Sunday: 5 Mile Run (done)
Monday: 30 Minutes Bike/Chest and Arms
Tuesday: 30 Minutes Bike/Triceps and Back
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: 3 Mile Run
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 3 Mile Run/Shoulders and Legs

This will give me 11 miles for the week and still allow me two total rest days AND I will have lifted all the major muscle groups. We shall see.
