3 miles

3 miles. That’s like…my whole life now. It’s the only distance I run. I have run it like, 7 times in a row.

So tonight, I was ready to run my 3, and realized my Garmin was dead. Fale.

When life gives you scurvy, make lemonade.

I decided to go to the gym and run on the treadmill.

ZOMG is that boring. I haven’t run indoors in a long time, and I hope to only do it infrequently. My god is that boring.

So, my heel is sore. Not bad, but sore. I think at least one more week of 9 miles (3*3) is in order.

  1. I’m glad you are still easing back into things, but the treadmill does sound *so* boring. If I do run (in my case more like kinda sorta jog, I guess) at all, I’ve been advised that the treadmill is probably what I should do instead of “real” running outside, and, yah, I haven’t bothered because it really is not nearly as interesting as the real deal. Still, it works in a pinch, right?

  2. Hey Maggie. Glad you are catching up on all your web reading and are settled in!

The treadmill is boring, but it is good exercize and it absolutely works, in a pinch or otherwise.

It is more difficult to run outside, mosly because surfaces don’t give as much and are irregular. So, you end up expending more energy outside than you would on the treadmill. Having said that, it’s entirely possible to start running outdoors if that is what you really want.

Not to mention, where you are living now has a pretty temperate climate no?

Glad to hear from you! Have a latte, on me.

    Nathan

Maggie, I can’t use my laptop while I’m running outside, but I can use it while on my treadmill desk :) In that sense, I find it better than running outside with the riffraff.

  4. Edog says:

Huh.. sounds like you’re actually running more than me right now.

  5. Ooh, running with laptops on a treadmill desk kind of thing. I’d be more likely to do that. ;)

Portland was far more moderate climate-wise – usually not too hot or too cold, but a lot of rain. Tulsa weather is completely insane with freezing temps and then extremely hot temps, but it is sunnier overall.

I get motion sick running on a treadmill anymore. Can’t do it after getting used to running outside. The whole room bounces up and down the whole time. And some kind of interference lines appear on the TV when I have that and the treadmill on at the same time. My life is ruined.

That’s why I walk on one :) I had distortion lines when I started, too. A combination of my brain adjusting its filters and my gait becoming smoother saved the day.
