Well, to be fair, all the major providers of phone, cell and television seem to suck. But this morning I am pissed at Comcast.
My cable bills are over 100 dollars a month for internet and television. If I have watched 12 hours of television this year, I would be very surprised. To that end, I decided to get rid of cable. However when you do that, and just have them for internet, they raise the fee for internet 17 dollars a month. Or you can keep the same low rate (which is still like 50 dollars a month) and get basic cable for 18.
I use Comcast for internet because I don’t have a land line, and didn’t want to pay for a line I’ll never use. But I am paying for cable I never use as well.
After I get a bill or two to see what it will cost me per month, I am going to call the local DSL provider. If I can save even 1 dollar by switching, I will.
You get a discount for each service if they are combined together. A la carte service cost more.
I can check with my contacts if there are any packages with lower prices that you may be interested in. I will also check to see if there are any promotions that you may be eligible for. Please feel free to send me the phone number on the account if you are interested in my assistance.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I do appreciate the opportunity to assist.
Best Regards,
Mark Casem

Hi Mark,
“A la carte service costs more. ” — Yeah, that’s what I said. And I don’t like it. Costs more, no matter the reason means I needed to shop around. You say that as though it’s a forgone conclusion, the same 2 plus 2 = 4. Comcast sets prices, it’s not something they dig up from the fossil record and make known.
I am not interested in promotions. Short term lower prices in the hopes that I will either forget or become hooked on a service aren’t doing me any favors.
And it’s not an inconvenience, it’s business. Comcast has to charge what they need to make money, and what the market will bear. It doesn’t mean I have to like paying it.
Unfortunately, since we still basically have a monopoly on phone, and television, Comcast has an unfair advantage over customers. So I am choosing to live without the service.
I already looked at DSL, and I am going to cancel my cable and go with a DSL only option. I am sure that I will be paying more than is necessary for DSL, but it’s still less than Comcast.
I hadn’t mentioned this, but this is something I have been on the fence about for a couple of months, and then yesterday I got a letter telling me that prices are going up. Sorry, this particular market of one, can’t bear that.
Market forces. They’re a bitch.
I love the implications that Comcast has a bot searching for “Comcast sucks” on blogs so that they can provide reactive customer service.
I love it, I have just done the same thing!
