The nice part

The nice part about working at a company were there are a lot of runners? No one bats an eye when you pull ice out of the freezer and shove it down your pants.

I have been icing my hip all day and it’s actually feeling GREAT. The pain is still there, and had I done this days ago instead of running on it it would likely be all better by now.

Here is the plan. Continue as I have been for the last 3 days taking ibuprofen (600 mg every 4 hours (I am not a doctor, and I am not telling you what to do)). Continue icing the rest of the today. Finally, stick to my plan to _run_ not _race_ the Turkey Trot tomorrow. In fact if I hadn’t already paid, I wouldn’t be going. But that t-shirt is mine! Mine I tell you! And I can’t wear a t-shirt for a race I didn’t finish.

  1. I’m going to try using the virtual partner option on the Garmin to pace myself tomorrow. It might be worth checking out if you want to help make sure you hold yourself back a bit. I tested VP on a 1.5 mile run this morning and it seemed pretty cool.

Now I’m all curious wondering what would happen if I put ice down my pants in an office full of not runners.

  3. Bil, that is not a bad idea. I might have to look at that tonight. I still haven’t laid out my gear for tomorrow so there is plenty of time to do that.

Maggie, do let us know how that comes out. (hehehe)

I use the virtual partner quite a bit while doing training runs. It’s enabled by default when you do a quick workout, which is what I use most times (e.g. 5K in 29:00). Quite cool. You should definitely check it out.

  5. John, I still haven’t looked at it. Maybe some evening this week we can IRC about it. I am always curious to learn what other people do for training to see if I can improve my own.
