I woke up today, Sunday, Long Run Day, and I asked the schedule “What say you schedule? How far? How fast?”. The schedule said nothing. Silence. I went about my morning business, the schedule remained silent.
That’s when the thoughts start creeping in. “Go for a recovery jog. Only go as far as feels good”. And that’s when I know I am going to go running, even if it’s not the best idea in the world.
So I did. I headed over to the barracks for a victory lap around the golf course. I wanted to go because I wanted to run for the fun of it. I wanted to go slow, think, and go over yesterday in the way I do all my serious thinking these days.
The victory lap turned into 4 slow miles. What a great day for a run.
Some stats:
Distance: 4.03 mi
Time: 47:22 (pace: 11:44)
Average Heart Rate: 132 bpm
Calories Burned: 570
4 miles @ 132bpm the day after a 1/2m? Look who ended up wickedly in shape….
Yeah, seriously… that’s awesome. I just finally got my first run in tonight after a two day layoff after the half.
This post freakin cracked me up by the way. “What say you schedule?”
I never believed exercise could be addictive. Until I gave up all my other addictions like smoking. Now I need the physical stress relief exercise provides. Added bonus, now I CAN exercise because I gave up smoking. I have a blog called Quit Coping, perhaps you’d like to do a link exchange? http://www.quitcoping.com ? See you at the gym! I’m not up to real terrain yet, only no-impact eliptical machines! hah ha
Tracee, thanks for the post. I agree, so much nicer that we _can_ exercise. You should get out and stretch the legs on the open road. While the gym is great (not taking anything from you there) it’s very stress relieving to get outside and get the heart rate going.
Happy moving!
The sound you hear isn’t silence from the schedule…..that noise is freedom. Freedom to run 9 miles today instead of the 6 plus cross, freedom to rest because things don’t feel right, freedom to do as you choose. Going for a “victory lap for the fun of it” usually isn’t part of any schedule I have seen, especially the day after a 1/2 mary. Welcome that freedom of not having a schedule for a bit of time. Soon enough, you will find yourself another schedule and then back to being a slave to it.
