Blah
Went for a walk for my cross training tonight.
I want to record this here, my shin(s) doesn’t hurt so bad I don’t want to run on it. Rather, I am afraid to run on it. If it were only a matter of taking the pain I would still be full steam ahead. That is sort of frustrating.
Some stats:
Distance: 3.64 mi
Time: 55:40 (pace: 15:13)
Average Heart Rate: 93 bpm
Calories Burned: 372
Hey Nathan,
I went to lunch with Mark Rebuck today. He mentioned that he always had horrible shin splints occur when running, so had pretty much given up running. In 2003 he started researching the symptoms and thought he might have compartment syndrome ( http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/front/lowerleg/anteriorcompart.htm)
He then went to a PT, mentioned his symptons, the PT gave him a few tests and determined that was the issue. He got sme minor surgery to open up the muscle casing and is now able to run w/o the shin pain.
Hey Bill,
In my travels across the internet to figure out how to deal with my shin pain I had run across compartment syndrome as well. I had kind of discounted it because my shin pain is on the inside of my leg and father down. However I do want to go to a PT and have them look at it (I am just lazy and haven’t called).
Compartment syndrome is nothing to mess with as I have read. It can in extreme cases lead to necrosis. Hard to run that way. :)
If it was that, I would get the surgery in a heart beat so I could be rid of this problem.
