Just an hour or two away

I am just an hour or two away from quitting smoking (bed time). I wanted to post here for posterity. I plan to look back here in the future to remember quitting. Eventually I won’t think about smoking anymore and that will be nice, but I’d also like to remember that I was once a smoker, and got myself out of it. (I am sure people will be happier when I shut the hell up about it too).

The Chantix is working. It’s not a miracle, but it’s pretty good. I went 7 hours yesterday without smoking and it wasn’t that bad. I thought about cigarettes and smoking them, but it wasn’t quite as ferocious as I know going that long has been in the past. It will give me the edge I need. I think if I actually waited a few more days it would be even easier, but I am not doing that (and I won’t be using that as an excuse to cheat). In my mind I know I want to quit, and I set this date as my quit date, I plan to see it through.

The next time people see me, I will be a nonsmoker. Sweet.

Quit, or do not, there is no try.

Wishing you the very best of luck tomorrow. Drinking lots of water and just breathing in helped me a lot – well, aside from wonderful Chantix, that is. Good luck!

  2. David W says:

    Good luck dude.

  3. Thanks everyone. But I don’t need luck…I got skill. :)

    (just kidding, I’ll need it)

It has been interesting to read all about your smoking cessation efforts so far. It’s enlightening for those of us unfamiliar with the addiction of cigs. Best of luck and skill!

  5. Hey Don, cool…I figured by now everyone would be sick of it. I was getting tired of talking. I was ready to stop last night, just to get the rest of it started.

Hey – good luck Nathan. Glad to hear that this Chantix thingy helps. I’m sticking with the Nicorette gum though. Works for me. and yep – I think I’ll go ahead and quit (again) as well. You’re partly to blame with all your rambling about quitting smoking the last few weeks. And I agree with Maggie, drink lots of water and stay away from beer (that’s why I’ll wait until after tomorrow)

  7. Nils, Cool! Enjoy the beer tomorrow. I’ll be out hiking and riding my bike away from beer and such. I tried the lozenges before, but that didn’t cut it for me. I think I found something that will work though.
