I found a JS count up clock online, and put the code in my template here. It will be counting up the time since my last smoke after I take the plunge.
In related news I found someone who knows someone taking Chantix right now. He said the drug is working wonders for this person. He said the crave is still there, but that it’s muted and gives the person the little bit of strength they needs to keep going. I consider that encouraging.
I think I may have read everything there is to read online about quitting smoking. Some of it was cool, and helps to build up the excitement for quitting…some of it is down right depressing. Either way, it will be tough, I am under no illusions…but I plan to give it both barrels. The hard part now is waiting to set a date. I have a tentative date in my head so far…it will be “bed time” on July 1st. That would be 7 days after my appointment on Monday (the amount of time you are supposed to take the pills before stopping).
For the non-smokers: Setting a date may seem strange, but I see it suggested time and time again in the stuff I am reading. It helps prepare you for what you are about to do, and gives you a little more leg up on the task…I’ll take any advantage I can.
i am on day seven of taking chantix, and i have no desire to stop smoking…………….. i know a lot of it is mental, but my doctor said it usually takes more than the “starter pack” to get you to quit. i talked to people who say it works, but i understood that it was :easy”. i am supposed to stop tomorrow,,,,,,,,,,,,june 23,2007…. but there is no way……. i do not feel anything different in the way i think about smoking. everyone keeps asking me if i feel more like quitting and the answer is no…… i hope it kicks in soon and i can quit but i am not feeling good about it at this time…sorry for not being encouraging… i went to the chantix website for a way to ask questions, but it is pretty “same old same old ” info on each page…kind of discouraging for me because i thought the support would be more than just a “generic” page of statistics.
Joni,
I am sorry you are having a rough go of it. I wish you well in your struggle to get smoke free. Perhaps another strategy will work for you. Not everyone, as I understand it, gets relief from Chantix. Good luck and take care.
Best of luck to you, Nathan. Though I am a non-smoker, I understand the date setting strategy. It is useful in overcoming lots of types of addictions.
Thanks Don…means a lot to have people pulling for you.
I started taking Chantix on June 16, 2007 and didn’t feel any different towards lighting up until the evening of day 12. That evening, I smoked my last cigarette around 9:30pm, threw away my last 3 cigarettes, went to bed around midnight and haven’t lit up since. Sure, I’ve had some cravings, but they’ve been a lot more mild that I ever thought they would be. I am approaching 96 hours smoke free and am determined to stick with it. By the way, I was a 1 to 2 pack a day smoker for 27 years.
